selling firearm to killer

A 42-year-old man pleaded guilty yesterday to being a felon in possession of a firearm that he sold to Shane Mark, who was later convicted of killing police officer Glen Gaspar.
Darren Nakahara admitted in U.S. District Court that he sold the handgun to Mark for $100 cash and either a quarter- or half-gram of crystal methamphetamine sometime in November 2002. The gun originally belonged to Nakahara's father, who had died.
Nakahara will be sentenced Sept. 23.
At Mark's murder trial in December, city prosecutors alleged Mark used the same gun to shoot at two men in Moanalua in February 2003 just a few months after he was released from prison and then in March, killing Gaspar.
Gaspar was trying to arrest Mark in connection with the Moanalua shooting when he was shot.
Mark is awaiting retrial on attempted murder charges for pointing the gun at Gaspar's partner and shooting at a second man in the Moanalua incident.
