‘Buffy’ writer joins
staff of ‘Lost’
David Fury, writer and producer for the late, lamented "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and series spinoff "Angel," has joined ABC's "Lost" staff as co-executive producer and writer. Noted animation writer Paul Dini ("Batman," "Duck Dodgers" and "Justice League") has left Warner Bros. Animation and joined the series as well.
"Lost" reportedly also will air on Australia's Channel 7 this fall. The series begins filming here July 15 ...
Jay Kenneth Johnson ("Days of Our Lives") has joined the cast of Fox's drama series "North Shore." He'll play a man who moves from Chicago to Hawaii's North Shore to open an extreme sports store and compete in the X-Games.
Episodes 2 and 3 are called "Surprise Party" and "Meteor Shower." The second episode has a new employee joining the Grand Waimea hotel when Tessa Lewis (Amanda Righetti), abandoned by her boyfriend and given a second chance by general manager Jason Matthews (Kristoffer Polaha), gets a job as a hotel maid, though she has her sights on the concierge position. The series uses the set at the Hawaii Film Studio for its lobby, lagoons at Ko Olina for its beaches, and the Turtle Bay Resort for its pool. Brother and sister Randy and Stephanie Spangler are sharing location duties for the series ...
CanWest Global, the biggest Canadian buyer at the recent L.A. Screenings, snared NBC's Oahu-based pilot "Hawaii," buying it from MGM. The show likely will use the Hopaco warehouse in Mapunapuna. (I used the wrong name last week.) ...
As for Hawaii-based TV series No. 4, the John Stockwell-Lizzy Weiss family drama "Rocky Point" has received a midseason order from the WB. Filming starts on Oahu in September. The North Shore-based series stars Billy Campbell.
"Rocky Point" follows the coming-of-age story of 19-year-old Connecticut transplant Cassie Flynn. Having deferred Princeton to return to the place of her birth, Cassie has created an idyllic new life with the help of her three best friends and her pro surfer boyfriend. Her blissful world, however, is thrown into disarray when her long-estranged father, Owen (Campbell), arrives at her doorstep.
"Only the Brave" completed filming in Los Angeles May 31. A rough cut will be screened for potential investors in Hawaii for post-production funds either this month or next. Film might be released in the fall ...
