Workshop to discuss Chinese view of death

Ways that the Chinese cultural approach to death and dying reflect Taoism, Confucianism and Buddhism will be explored in a free workshop sponsored by St. Francis Hospice.

The June 25 presentation will feature the Rev. Duane J.L. Pang, a Taoist master, speaking on "Chinese Religious Death and Dying Traditions and Customs in Hawaii."

The program will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Borthwick Mortuary.

Pang will discuss how local Taoist practices differ from China's, concepts of acceptance and preparation for death and filial piety, and the importance of Chinese language and rituals.

June 21 is the deadline for registration. Call St. Francis Hospice at 595-7566, or e-mail FELICIAM@sfhs-hi.org.
