BYU-Hawaii's Kalabic named All-Academic

Brigham Young-Hawaii men's water polo player Vanja Kalabic has been named to the Daktronics District VIII at-large All-Academic Team by the College Sports Information Directors Association.

Kalabic, a junior from Belgrade, Yugoslavia, led the Seasiders last fall to a 15-7 record and a top-20 national ranking by scoring 75 goals. He has scored 243 goals during his three seasons at BYUH.

Defending champ Asao top seed at Manoa Cup

Kellen-Floyd Asao returns to Oahu Country Club next week to defend his title in the Manoa Cup.

Asao is the top seed in the field for the 96th annual match-play tournament. More than 100 players will compete for the remaining 63 seeds in a qualifying round Monday. Matches begin the following day with the 36-hole championship match set for June 12.

Also entered are past champions Brandan Kop, Guy Yamamoto, Randy Shibuya and Damien Victorino, as is Kurt Nino, last year's runner-up and this year's state high school boys champion.

Tinman Triathlon entry deadline nears

The postmarked deadline to enter the 24th annual Tinman Triathlon at the regular price is Saturday. The event will be held July 18.

Entry forms are available at most running and bike stores and at www.tinmanhawaii.com. The fee is $75. From June 6-29, the fee is $85.

Polo season begins at Waimanalo on Sunday

The Honolulu Polo Club season begins Sunday and runs for 19 weeks through Oct. 17 at the Waimanalo Polo Grounds.

The matches start at 2:30 p.m. each Sunday with the gates opening at 1 p.m. General admission is $3. Military members with a valid I.D. and children under 12 are free.

Soccer camp features college players

Division I college soccer players are the featured instructors at the Ultimate Challenge Summer Soccer Camp at Kapiolani Park.

The camp is open to boys and girls ages 6-14 and consists of two sessions. Camp I runs June 7-11, Camp II is June 14-18. The cost for the full-day camp (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) is $139. The half-day camp (9 a.m. to noon or 1-4 p.m.) is $89.

Honolulu Club to host racquetball tourney

Entries are being accepted for the Honolulu Club Summer Heatwave Racquetball Tournament to be held June 24-27.

Competition will be held in five divisions ranging from open to novice in men's and women's singles and doubles and mixed doubles. The entry fee is $40.

China Uemura women's surf event set

China Urmura's annual Wahine Surfing Classic, the largest female surfing competition held in the United States, is scheduled for June 12 and 13 at Kuhio Beach.

The event is a benefit for the Sex Abuse Treatment Center of Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children. To date, over $16,000 has been raised for SATC.
