3 Vulcan baseball players receive honors

UH-Hilo senior Kaliko Oligo and junior Johnny Dudoit earned second-team NCAA Division I All-Independent League honors yesterday, while junior David Chu was named honorable mention.

Oligo led the Vulcans with a .335 average and 15 stolen bases this year. Dudoit paced the team with 35 RBIs and had a .430 slugging percentage.

Chu finished third on the team with a .299 batting average and 12 stolen bases.

UH swimmers make academic teams

UH senior Kurt Boehm was selected to the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII Men's At-Large first team yesterday.

Boehm, the current UH recordholder in the 200 Fly, holds a 3.87 grade-point average in mechanical engineering.

Teammate Cheyne Bloch was named to the second team with a 3.36 GPA in general business.

ESPN 2-person qualifier July 18 at Turtle Bay

The Turtle Bay Resort will host local and regional qualifying for the ESPN National Golf Challenge on July 18.

The challenge is a national two-person best-ball tournament, which will give "America's Best 2 Some" an ESPN Espy Award.

The local round will be an 18-hole tournament, followed by a 4-hole regional qualifier "shoot-out."

The event is open to male and female golfers with USGA or other approved handicaps.
