TALKING OLD TIMES: Maestro Samuel Wong, top photo, talked backstage with Jane Coop afterher exquisite rendition of Beethoven's "Concerto No. 1" with the Honolulu Symphony earned an enthusiatic ovation on Sunday. Coop was Wong's piano teacher 25 years ago.

NOT ALL POSITIVE: Ooklah the Moc vocalist Ras Bird LaPierre, right, rebuked the Hard Rock for running out of the band's favorite alcoholic beverages but the overflow crowd partied on anyway as Matty Liu presented the "Ooklah the Moc CD Release Party" at the Honolulu Hard Rock Cafe last Friday. Micky Huihui and Keli Navalas joined LaPierre in rocking the mic.

THANKS, GUYS!: Honolulu jazz fans got a great concert last Friday when Ronnie Cuber, left, played two sets with the Bruce Hamada Trio at All-Star Hawaii. KIPO disc jockey Don Gordon, center, promoted Cuber's one-nighter with an assist from Hamada, second from left. Noel Okimoto and Jim Howard joined Hamada in giving the famed baritone saxophonist excellent support and added solid solos of their own to the evening. It was all reminiscent of the days when jazz greats played gigs at Trappers in the Hyatt Rgency Waikiki.

GUNFIGHTERS PARTY: Athena Espania celebrated with Alan Sutterfield, left, and Allen Cole, at the opening night party for Manoa Valley Theatre's production of "Gunfighter" on Wednesday. Sutterfield and Cole star as rival officers at odds over the cover-up of a "friendly fire" incident that killed two soldiers in Iraq. Espania designed the costumes.
