Vulcans cold in Colorado
The cool weather got to the Hawaii-Hilo baseball team as it dropped a 12-0 game to Northern Colorado yesterday at Jackson Field in Greeley, Colo.
No Vulcan batter had more than one hit as the Bears held UHH to just six hits while producing 13 of their own off three UHH pitchers. The game was called after seven innings due to a mutual agreement between both teams as the Vulcans (9-40) ran out of pitchers.
The shutout by Justin Sands and Jason Sessions was the third of the season for UNC (28-21) and came a day after beating the Vulcans 27-16 to in the opener of the two-game series. Sands earned the win on the mound while Clay Daugherty took the loss. Patrick Perry and Matt Sutton had four hits apiece for the Bears.
The Vulcans are now 0-7 on the road and playing for the first time outside of Hawaii. UHH plays New York Tech (17-32) in the inaugural game of the Division I Independent Baseball Invitational tomorrow, and host Northern Colorado faces Pace University (17-30-1).
The tournament continues with the Vulcans playing Pace on Friday and Northern Colorado on Saturday.
