Demo at the market
Chef Peter Merriman will hold a cooking demonstration this weekend at the Saturday Farmers' Market at Kapiolani Community College. His 9 a.m. presentation will feature North Shore Cattle Co. beef and fresh produce sold at the market.
The market is held 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays by the Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation and the Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Kapiolani Community College. Call 848-2074.
Baking basics
Chef Abigail Langlas of the Honolulu Coffee Co. will teach a series of Saturday classes at Kapiolani Community College. All classes run 1 to 5 p.m. Registration runs three weeks ahead. Call 734-9211.
Bread Baking: Learn the art and science of baking bread from scratch; June 5. Cost is $45.
Chocolate!: Learn to identify and use all types; June 19. Cost is $45.
Simply Beautiful Cakes: A two-part class on frostings, fillings and baking techniques; July 24 and 31. Cost is $80.
Mexican cooking
Also at KCC, Anna Marie Perez-Armstrong leads "Viva Mexico!," a series of Wednesday evening classes. All classes run 6 to 9 p.m. and cost $45 each. Registration runs three weeks ahead. Call 734-9211.
Appetizers, Salsas and a Little Bit of Breakfast: Class also includes tortilla-making and huevos rancheros; June 9.
Main Courses and Side Dishes: Enchiladas, flautas, Mexican rice, frijoles, chicken mole and burritos; June 23.
Desserts and Drinks: Ice cream nachos, sopapillas, tres leches cake, fresh virgin margaritas and sangria; July 7.
