Punahou earns spot
in tourney
Punahou scored in all but one inning and took advantage of some crucial Lahainaluna errors to win a berth in this week's state baseball tournament with a 14-2 victory yesterday.
Noah Phillips and Mark Veneri each had three hits and three RBIs for the Buffanblu, who scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning without a hit to help pull away from the Lunas.
Starting pitcher Shaun Kiriu struck out six and walked just one in working four innings for the win.
Charles and Joshua Wallace combined for three of the Lunas' six hits, driving in both runs.

Cardinals clinch state berth
The St. Joseph girls basketball team defeated Kamehameha-Big Island 40-38 last night to win the Division II BIIF girls basketball championship and a berth in the upcoming state tournament.
The Cardinals were the BIIF regular-season champions, but the Warriors won the postseason tournament on Friday to set up last night's playoff game.
