Gas Co. union ratifies contract
Teamster employees of the Gas Co. yesterday ratified a new four-year contract agreement reached with the company's management earlier this week.
The contract includes wage increases of 50 cents per hour for the next four years, and a promise of no layoffs during that period. Management also agreed to raise pension contributions and continue its medical premium payments for the next four years while dropping its proposal for an employee co-payment.
The deal was reached late Monday night after a marathon bargaining session. The members of the Hawaii Teamsters and Allied Workers Local 996 had agreed to continue working under an existing contract while the negotiations proceeded.
There are 206 unionized employees at the Gas Co. working in manufacturing, distribution and clerical areas.
