"CINCO DE MAYO" AT NICK'S: Denny Miyasato, left, and Dave Toma rocked hard as Nick's Farmarket director of sales & marketing Sulan Granger presented Nicks' "Cinco de Mayo" party on May 5. Miyasato and Toma have an ample repertoire of originals but helped set an appropriate mood by playing "La Bamba." Jocelyn Cua-Racoma added an "angry chick song" to the final set when she sat in on lead vocals for "Hit Me With Your Best Shot."

HERE'S FRANKIE!: Frank B. Shaner, subject of much concern since he was abruptly dismissed from the local airwaves in January, enjoyed a quiet "Cinco de Mayo" at Compadres with Cyma Wilson, front, on May 5. Well-wishers Cindy Cortez, back left, and Mariebeth Rodriguez were celebrating "Cinco" at the next table.

HELLO, TOTO!: Steve Ozark, right, was catering the KennyLoggins concert on May 7 but slipped away to the Blaisdell Concert Hall to catch TOTO members Mike Porcaro, left, and David Paich, in concert with Matt Catingub and the Honolulu Symphony. Ozark dated Paich's sister years before the band hit it big, promoted their first album here before radio stations were playing it, and even mapped out the lighting effects for the group's 1979 concert in Blaisdell Arena.
