Runners took off from the starting line at the Mid Pacific Road Runner's Club Pearl Harbor Bike Path Run on Sunday. Winner Eric Egenolf was nine seconds faster than Andy Atterbury.




Seasiders reel in regional awards

Brigham Young-Hawaii seniors Jan Krejci and Amy Sun were named the ITA's West region seniors of the year yesterday.

Krejci has been the top player on BYUH's back-to-back national championship teams and is undefeated in 24 matches heading into the NCAA Tournament tomorrow in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

Sun is also unbeaten in singles and holds an edge over Krejci in doubles. Sun is a perfect 18-0 when playing with a partner while Krejci is 15-2.

Dillon Porter was the rookie of the year on the men's side while Jing Jing Lui took the award for the Seasider women.

David Porter was the coach of the year for both the men and the women.

Both Seasiders teams will take on Valdosta State tomorrow. The BYUH men lost to Valdosta 5-3 earlier this season while the women, who have won 97 straight matches, beat the Blazers.

Kodama qualifies for NCAA regionals

Hawaii senior golfer Matt Kodama won an individual spot in the NCAA West Regional at Sunriver, Ore., May 20-22.

Kodama will need to finish in the top two spots to advance to the NCAA tournament in Hot Springs, Va., in June.

Kodama has finished in the top 10 in eight of his 10 tournaments this year and became the first Warrior to win a tournament since he did it in 2001. Kodama is the first Warrior to compete in the regional since Scott Carlyle in 2001.

Soccer fund raiser for Veterans Cup

The Hawaii Soccer Association is holding a party Sunday at the Ocean Club in Restaurant Row from 6 to 10 p.m.

The event is a fund raiser to defer expenses for hosting the Veterans Cup June 23-27. The cost is $10 and includes pupus, soda, music for dancing, crazy fund contests and games and other surprises.

To purchase tickets or for more information, call HSA president Donna Fouts at 523-6749.

Donations and sponsorships are welcomed. They should be sent to the non-profit corporation, Hawaii Soccer Association, c/o Jack Sullivan, P.O. Box 1756, Honolulu, HI 96806. Sullivan's telephone number is 531-0605.

Last year, 60 teams visited from the mainland for the tournament and brought in about $3 million to the community.

Kona Open signs title sponsor for 2004

The Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa has signed to be the title sponsor of the 2004 Kona Open golf tournament, set to take place May 29 and 30 at the Kona Country Club.

The event is open to any golfer with a handicap of 24 or under. Provided they get a full field of 120 players, the professional flight purse will be $15,000 while the A and Women's flights will compete for more than $3,000 in merchandise and prizes.
