Apple iTunes
brings back IZ
AFTER A three-month hiatus, the music of Israel Kamakawiwoole is back on Apple's iTunes Music Store.
Tracks off his albums "E Ala E," "Facing Future," "In Dis Life" and "IZ: The Man and His Music" were available from the music downloading service but got pulled after music publisher Mountain Apple Co. discovered they were online without the proper clearances.
The good news? Everything's been worked out, and IZ fans around the world can once again access his music through iTunes, along with albums by the Brothers Cazimero, HAPA, Sol Hoopii, Na Leo and Martin Pahinui.
As of yesterday afternoon, Kamakawiwoole's "Facing Future" release was ranked at No. 34 on iTunes' Top 100 Albums, right below the Foo Fighters and just ahead of Lionel Richie. Take a look at the World Music category, and you'll find the album ranked No. 1, with the song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World" also at the top of the category's singles chart ...
ANOTHER GROUP doing well among listeners from outside Hawaii is Ekolu.
Their latest CD, "Back to the Valley," is the first one released under their own label, Waiehu Records.
Band members Akoni Dellomes, Makapu Hoopii and Lukela Keala have come a long way from their first performance during a Brown Bags to Stardom competition -- this week, the album checks in at No. 15 on the Billboard World Music chart. Congrats, guys ...
TURNS OUT the guys from Amplified postponed their departure to the mainland by a couple of weeks, but it was for a good reason.
Instead of taking off late last month after a final concert at the Wave Waikiki, the band decided to stick around and take part in the Hard Rock Cafe's "Shot at Cabo Wabo" band competition.
It was a good thing they stayed -- Amplified beat out Woody, Black Prism and Center City to take top honors in the finals Wednesday, qualifying them for a shot at playing with Sammy Hagar at his bar in Mexico later this year.
Winning bands from contests in 20 U.S. cities will be posted online at www.cabowabo.com starting tomorrow, and the band with the most votes gets to play at this year's "Cabo Wabo Meltdown 2004."
The extra couple of weeks also meant the guys got to head out in style -- after playing at the Hard Rock and partying for a few hours afterward at the Wave, band members Chad Domschke, RickyLee Miller, Kodia Rae and Ryan Selzer made their way to the airport early last Thursday morning to catch a flight to the mainland ...
