Emery’s 3-goal spurt gives
Kahuku water-polo title
In a rematch of last year's championship, Stephanie Emery scored three consecutive goals in a 92-second span late in the fourth quarter to break a 4-4 tie and propel the Kahuku Red Raiders to their second straight Oahu Interscholastic Association water-polo title with an 8-4 victory over Roosevelt.
Emery and Keala Whitford gave Kahuku an early 2-0 lead with first-quarter goals, but Leilani Warren's goal with eight seconds left in the first half knotted the score at 3 at halftime.
The Rough Riders took their only lead of the game on a Lindsay Tanigawa goal 20 seconds into the third quarter, but Alee Thompson tied the game at 4 before Emery's fourth-quarter heroics.
Merne Moody's goal with a minute left capped the game's scoring.
