Marshall Silverberg swam laps yesterday as Chris Hawk walked alongside the pool before getting in at the Honolulu YWCA. The historical facility was designed in 1925 by Julia Morgan, the same architect who was commissioned to design the Hearst Castle at San Simeon, Calif. The YWCA at 1040 Richards St. offers a range of community classes from pottery to swimming. People interested in enrolling may call 538-7061.

These three dogs met each other on the corner of South and Auahi streets yesterday. Baby, a Yorkshire terrier, left, walking with Janes Yu, went nose to nose with Petey, also a Yorkie, and Sunshine, a Shih Tzu, walking with Roy Ingalls.

Don Eckler relaxed under a tree yesterday as the Royal Hawaiian Band played on the front lawn of the Iolani Palace grounds. "I am happily retired," said Eckler, who makes it a point to hear the free performance by the Royal Hawaiian Band every Friday from noon to 1 p.m. People interested in more information about the band can visit its Web site, www.royalhawaiianband.com.
