Ward event celebrates history of aloha shirts
Powder Edge will be presenting a tribute to the aloha shirt with Dale Hope, 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Powder Edge in the Ward Village Shops.The event offers an excuse to bust out your vintage shirt for a chance to get a free appraisal and win a collector's aloha print-bound copy of Hope's book, "The Aloha Shirt: Spirit of the Islands," or a limited-edition 2004 Patagonia Pataloha shirt.
Hope, the designer of Patagonia's Ocean line, launched his first shirt label H-R-H, His Royal Highness, in 1973. Later, he purchased the legendary Kahala label and helped lead an aloha shirt revival. Today, celebrities, businessmen and tourists are fans of these Hawaiian prints.
You might say this event offers the opportunity to talk story with the guy who literally "wrote the book" on the subject.
Those who purchase a Patagonia Pataloha shirt during the event will receive an out-of-print "2000 Year of the Aloha Shirt" poster signed by Hope.

Perfume offers tribute to 150-year-old Tiffany
To commemorate its 150th anniversary, Tiffany & Co. created the fragrance Tiffany, a subtle blend of floral and fruity essences, including Damascena rose, Indian jasmine, ylang-ylang and fleur d'orange. It's geared toward the "contemporary woman of style and taste."If that sounds like you, or mom (hint, hint), then get yourself over to the Tiffany store at Ala Moana Center (943-6677) or 2100 Kalakaua Ave. (926-2600).
The scent comes in a sterling silver refillable Audubon Purser, adapted from 19th-century Japanese bird paintings in the Tiffany & Co. Archives. The purser is $185; a .25-fluid-ounce Tiffany Parfum spray refill is $65.
