Impressions of Paris
Computer wizardry transforms
modern photographs of Paris
into images intended to evoke
the masters of Impressionism
By Dennis Callan
Special to the Star-Bulletin
In celebration of the Honolulu Academy of Arts' current exhibition of Impressionist paintings, "Japan and Paris: Impressionism, Postimpressionism, and the Modern Era," Dennis Callan, who usually writes "Three Days in ..." the first of the month, presents a portfolio of photos of Paris.
Callan, president of the Hawaii Geographic Society, has taken thousands of photographs in Paris during many visits to what he considers the world's most beautiful city.
In homage to the Impressionist masters, he selected his favorite photos and transformed them into Impressionist-style "paintings" using Photoshop and other computer techniques.
