Wie is honorary chair
of benefit to aid
abused kids


Michelle Wie is the honorary chair for Fundango, a benefit for Kapiolani Miracle Network's CARE program, which treats children who have been victimized by abuse and neglect. The event is next Saturday at La Pietra, 6 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $100 and include margaritas and other drinks, food, Mexican entertainment and a silent auction. Michelle is donating autographed items for the auction. Call 535-7100 for tickets ...

A group of Hawaiian men do their bit to keep Hawaiian music and the aloha spirit flowing by getting together in afternoons and evenings outside the Ewa end of Ala Moana Longs and singing island songs. They give it that backyard party feel and are liable to show up any day of the week. Among the singer-musicians are Al Kaili, Andrew Hatchie, Tony Navacilla, Kawika Je, Albert Maielua, the late steel guitarist Feet Rogers' nephew Ronald Rodrigues, Ike Kaawa (dad of noted singer Mike Kaawa), and Moses Iokua. Moses' nephew Moke-Boy Kamealoha and his family joined them the night I stopped to listen. Also sitting in with his harmonica was Keith Smith ...

CPK bosses roll up the sleeves and get to work

California Pizza Kitchen founders Rick Rosenfield and Larry Flax, who have many friends here, can be seen tomorrow at 10 p.m. on the Learning Channel, TLC, working as CPK employees. Rick and Larry will wash dishes, bus tables, make pizzas and salads and wait on customers. Their work will be rated by managers. Good luck, managers ... Toto performs with the Honolulu Symphony Pops Friday and next Saturday at the Concert Hall. Uke whiz Jake Shimabukuro is the supporting act ...

The early morning conversation around the office on Wednesday and Thursday centered on "American Idol," as it has for weeks. A motherly type was sad that redheaded John Stevens was shown the door. She's the type that kept him in the show all these weeks. Jasmine Trias certainly deserves to continue. I felt she was third best Tuesday, with Diana DeGarmo in the top spot and LaToya London second. George Huff turned in another weak performance and outspoken Fantasia Barrino did not impress ...

Cinco de Mayo celebrations get under way today at Compadres and will continue through Wednesday ... Don't forget the Brothers Cazimero's Lei Day concert tonight at the Waikiki Shell, 7:30 p.m. ...
