Stevens latest
vote victim
Last week, Mililani's Jasmine Trias proved she belonged in the top half of "American Idol's" elite group of 12 finalists. As a member of the top six this week, the Maryknoll senior hoped Tuesday night's rendition of Gloria Estefan's "Here We Are," which earned her mostly positive comments from the show's judges, would help her advance in the competition.
She did not get off to a good start during last night's results show. For the first time in three weeks, Trias found herself in the bottom three, along with John Stevens and George Huff.
Much to her fans' delight, however, Trias was the first of the bottom three to be declared safe and sent back to the stageside couch to take her place alongside the week's leaders.
In the end, Stevens, the 16-year-old crooner who had defied the odds and advanced each week despite tepid evaluations, finally got the pink slip.
Although Trias did not break into the top three, it wasn't due to a lack of votes from her home state. Verizon Hawaii tallied 4.2 million non-text calls to "Idol's" toll-free numbers from the islands.
If, as it was mentioned on last night's program, this week's ousted singer received more than four million votes, it may take a greater effort on the part of Trias' local and mainland supporters to get her through another week of competition.
