For military moms
Moms whose spouses, sons or daughters are serving duty in Iraq can pick up a gift box of Island Princess chocolate-covered macadamia nuts for Mother's Day.
Island Princess is giving away the candies through May 7 and is offering discounts to mothers sending care packages to Iraq.
Visit the Island Princess factory outlet, 2846 Ualena St., near the airport. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Call 839-5222, ext. 214.
Walk for charity
Walking, eating and raising cash make up the activities of the day at the annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk, scheduled for May 15.
The Hawai'i Hotel & Lodging Association's Charity Walk takes place simultaneously on Oahu, Maui, Kauai and the Big Island. Funds raised go toward local charities, with at least $100,000 pledged to the schools.
Oahu's walk begins at Ala Moana Beach Park's McCoy Pavilion at 6 a.m., circling through Waikiki and back to McCoy Pavilion for a plate lunch and post-walk concert.
Walkers are fed and entertained at 17 checkpoints along the seven-mile walk. These checkpoints are typically outside hotels or restaurants, which sponsor the snacks.
Minimum donation to participate is $35; $25 for children.
Last year, more than 10,900 walkers raised $810,000 for more than 180 local charities.
