cast for ‘North Shore’
Fox Television's hotel drama series "The North Shore," which starts filming tomorrow at the Haleiwa bridge, has a new cast member in James Remar, who replaces Rob Estes. (It's a role that both Tom Selleck and Don Johnson turned down.) Margaret Doversola, who did local casting for NBC's pilot "Hawaii," is doing the same for the Fox show. "Blue Crush" co-writer/director John Stockwell reaffirms that his WB network pilot "Rocky Point" will begin two weeks of filming here this summer, most likely in July, with preproduction in June. "It's going to happen, but it's up to me to determine exactly when," he said. Stockwell wants the most convenient time to shoot since there's a possibility that the ABC and NBC pilots being filmed here will be green lit as series. Billy Campbell has been cast as the estranged father of a young woman living with her friends on Oahu's North Shore who reluctantly takes him in. Stockwell wants to cast as many locals as possible, including the two other girls and a guy who live in the house. Stockwell, in a recent North Shore visit, met with Brian Keaulana, who headed the water safety department for "Blue Crush," and Don King, who did the water photography. Johnny Knoxville will star in the New Line Cinema adaptation of the Image comic book "Hawaiian Dick" that is under development. The story, set in 1953, centers on the story of a woeful big-city private investigator exiled to Hawaii. While there, he stumbles onto a case involving a missing local girl who eventually turns up dead. The problem is that she doesn't seem to stay dead. The Hilton Waikoloa Village is where ABC Television's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" sent the homeowner while a construction design team completely renovated the family home. This is the series' first show featuring a Hawaii vacation. Camera crews filmed the Southern California family vacationing at the Big Island hotel, snorkeling, kayaking and a dolphin encounter.
