Kapono celebrates
Henry Kapono celebrated the release of his 25th recording, "Duke's on Sunday," at Duke's Canoe Club in Waikiki last Sunday. Duke's was jammed despite the horrendous traffic problems caused by the Honolulu Triathlon and 2004 USA Triathlon, both held in Waikiki that day. Kapono was scheduled to play until 6:30 p.m. but kept going till the sun went down. Among those in the crowd was 97.5 KPOI Music Director Fil Slash, who said he's had a 97.5 attendance record on Sunday afternoons since Kapono started playing there 10 years ago.
Kapono signed a commemorative T-shirt for Lisa Johnson after the concert while Lani Bergstrom, behind Johnson, helped her hold it in place.

Ray Means and Alyson Yoshimori were among the partyers who had passes for the private poolside VIP CD-party after the concert.

Soft-spoken Terry Norris, left, was one of the VIPs who congratulated Kapono.

A capacity crowd enjoyed the music as Henry Kapono, center with guitar, played his favorite rock 'n soul oldies with percussionist Lopaka Colon, front right, drummer Rick Gilbert, behind Colon, and bassist James Roberts.

|
Duke's General Manager Ross Anderson, left, Vice President Dick Moon and Senior Vice President David Alliare came up on stage to present Kapono with a framed copy of the "Duke's on Sunday" CD and its artwork.
