» PacificBasin Communications has named John Heckathorn editorial director. He will oversee Honolulu Magazine, Hawaii Business, Hawaii Home + Remodeling, Ala Moana magazine, Ala Moana Center Holiday Gift Book, Shop America magazine and all of the company's contract publishing publications. He began writing for Honolulu magazine in 1984 and joined the staff in 1985.

» Asset management firm CSI Inc. has named Scott M. Furukawa executive director. The company also named Wendy Gorka director of services. Newly elected officers on the board of directors are President Suzanne White, Vice President Lori Wells, Secretary Sue Cornish and Treasurer Edwin Chung.

» James T. Miyashiro Jr. has joined the law department of Alexander & Baldwin Inc. as counsel. He will be responsible for the company's regulatory filings and general legal matters. He comes to the company from Cades Schutte, where his legal work focused on business law issues.

On the Board

» Oceanic Institute's board of trustees has appointed Gary D. Pruder to interim president. He replaces Thomas E. Farewell. Pruder joined the institute in 1984 as project manager and coordinator of the U.S. Marine Shrimp Farming Program.

» Middle Eastern Dance Artists of Hawaii have elected Margery "Shadiya" Doescher-Taglies president. Other officers are Vice President Linda "Shamira" Beauregard-Axelson, Treasurer Jean Yanagawa and Secretary Ednah Folk. Also elected as members-at-large are Willow Chang, Ruth Cuti and Joselyn Futanilla.
