Economic conference planned

State economists, real estate followers and regulatory experts will be among the guest speakers next Friday at the Hawaii Economic Association's 14th annual conference on economic issues.
The event, which begins with a 7:45 a.m. registration, will be in the South Pacific rooms at Hilton Hawaiian Village. The luncheon and keynote speaker will be Stanford Carr of Stanford Carr Development Co.
Bank of Hawaii Chief Economist Paul Brewbaker, Carl Bonham of the University of Hawaii Economic Research Organization and Pearl Imada Iboshi of the state Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism will participate in the first session and give their forecasts for Hawaii's economy.
The middle session, which will look at Hawaii's changing housing market, will be addressed by Harvey Shapiro of the Honolulu Board of Realtors and Title Guaranty of Hawaii, Paula Harris of the Harris Co., Mike Defferding of Forest City Enterprises and Denny Watts of Miller/Watts Constructors.
In the final session about regulatory theory and practice, speakers will be Sumner La Croix and Sang-Hyop Lee, both of the UH economics department; Ron Lim, former special assistant on housing to the governor and a board member of the Hawaii Community Development Authority; and Mike Sklarz of Fidelity National Information Services.
Registration is $50 for HEA members, $60 for nonmembers and $10 (not including the lunch) for students. There is a late fee for payments received later than today.
