Kalaheo catches
Kaiser off guard

Shanadee Canon scored 13 of her game-high 22 points in the first half and Shaina Siliga added 10 of her 16 to lead a short-handed Kalaheo team to a surprising 61-43 win over visiting Kaiser.

The win pulled the two teams even at 7-2, 1 1/2 games behind undefeated Kahuku in the Eastern Division standings.

Kalaheo entered last night's game with four players out due to injuries -- including starters Kaiena Huihui and Taylor Smith -- but used a stifling defense to hold Kaiser's scoring threat, Sharde Pratt, to just one field goal in the first half to take a commanding 32-21 halftime lead.

Pratt scored seven of her team-high 11 points in the fourth quarter for Kaiser, and teammates Shera Yamamoto and Kilioe Aliifua each added 10.

Farrington 64, Kaimuki 38: Sunshine Misa-Uli singlehandedly outscored the Bulldogs, pouring in 39 points, grabbing 14 rebounds and dishing out eight assists as the Governors routed Kaimuki.

"She wanted to make her presence felt inside and she really wanted the ball, called for it and just initiated the offense," Farrington coach Jenic Tumaneng said of Misa-Uli.

The Bulldogs fronted Misa-Uli, double teamed her and even used a two-three zone, but the Governors' outside shooting freed up Misa-Uli on the inside. She had eight offensive boards.

Tumaneng said Misa-Uli's teammates "found her moving to open spaces and got the ball to her."

Misa-Uli went 9-for-13 from the free-throw line.

Chasity Laulusa led Kaimuki with 12 points.

Tumaneng said the win comes at an important time with the OIA East season winding down and playoff spots up for grabs.

"We need to win out our games," he said. "That's something we can control."
