Reshoot for pilot
of ‘North Shore’
Next week, Fox Television's hotel drama "The North Shore" begins reshooting most, if not all, of its original pilot episode that wrapped here in March. The network isn't saying why, but two of the shows co-stars are gone, including Rob Estes, who played the managing partner of the fictitious Hawaii hotel The Grand Waimea.
Former "Baywatch: Hawaii" star Brooke Burns will replace the actress who played the hotel's manager. Michael Dinner, who directed the short-lived Hawaii-based series "Fantasy Island" in 1998, is now directing. The production will film for five months through September, with the production working six-day weeks through June, then five-day weeks beginning in July.
Some of the pilot will be reshot at the Turtle Bay Resort, primarily beach and pool scenes, on April 27 and May 5. Producers reportedly are looking for a "famous" personality -- Don Johnson's name was mentioned, then dropped -- to be in the show, which premieres Monday, June 14 ...
Rumors that NBC's police drama "Hawaii" has been green lit for six episodes, with filming beginning in July, are not true, a show executive says. NBC announces its fall lineup in May.
By the way, did you know that Hawaii Film Office manager Donne Dawson read the original "Hawaii" script and notified producers of several offensive racial and cultural stereotypes that needed rewrites, heading off possible problems? ...
ABC's castaway pilot episode of "Lost," which wraps shooting Saturday, has been a boom for local actors. Thirty-four have been hired to portray the crashed airplane's passengers, 10 hired as stand-ins, plus a large number of extras.
Maui-based publicist Blaise Noto is handling regional and sports publicity for James Caviezel's new film, "Bobby Jones, Stroke of Genius," opening this month. (Caviezel played the lead role in "The Passion of the Christ.") Noto also has been doing some marketing consulting for producers in Canada on a film in pre-production titled "Heart of a Dragon" ...
Director Roland Emmerich has donated $100,000 to the University of Hawaii Foundation in direct support of the university's Academy for Creative Media (ACM). Emmerich's gift will help fund ACM's equipment needs and support student scholarships.
