There certainly wasn't a lack of inspiration for contestants of Canon USA Hawaii Branch's 2004 Amateur Photo Contest. This year's topic, "Pets in Hawaii," drew more than 350 entries, undoubtedly lighting a fire in many a pet lover to capture the sparkling personalities of their best pals.

Canon Photo Gallery, at 210 Ward Ave., suite 200, is displaying the works of 30 finalists through April 29. Most subjects of the winning entries are of the canine persuasion, but a few felines grace the gallery walls as well. Animal lovers and photography buffs will especially enjoy the show.
