The Seventh Islandwide Best Mother's Day Spring Crafts & Food Expo is under way at the Blaisdell Center Exhibition Hall. Participants include Sue Uyehara, who showed off one of her creations yesterday, a hand-sewn Japanese-style vest. Uyehara has been sewing for 50 years. The event continues today from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Beau Calamayan looked at "hair grass," or Eleocharis parvulus, an ornamental aquarium plant that resembles an underwater lawn, at Pets Unlimited on Thursday. Calamayan said it takes a cylinder of piped-in carbon dioxide to make the plant look good.
