Biola thwarts Hawaii Pacific comeback
Biola jumped out to an early lead and held off a late rally to defeat the Hawaii Pacific baseball team 5-3 yesterday at Aloha Stadium and win the five-game series.
Biola catcher Andy Krosker went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs to lead the Eagles. Jonathan Grijalva (5-0) picked up the win for Biola (29-8-1).
HPU (22-22) trailed 5-0 after six innings before rallying for three runs in the bottom of the seventh behind RBI singles by Alika Kuraoka and Geoffrey Say. Kai Austin (4-4) took the loss.
The Sea Warriors open a five-game series with Chico State with a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. Saturday at Aloha Stadium.
Little-league players and teams in uniform will be admitted free to HPU home games this month. A photo and autograph session with the Sea Warrior players will follow the games.
Four U.S. Open qualifiers scheduled
Local golfers can attempt to qualify for this year's U.S. Open at four tournaments to be held in Hawaii starting next month.
The local qualifiers are set for May 15 at the Kaanapali Golf Course on Maui, May 18 at Poipu Bay Resort on Kauai and May 20 at Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu. A U.S. Open sectional qualifier will be held June 7 at Turtle Bay.
Golfers with a handicap index of 1.4 or lower are eligible to enter the qualifying events. The deadline to enter is April 28.

Kahanamoku Foundation to award scholarships
The Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation will award two $500 scholarships at Sunday's Honolulu Triathlon.
The scholarships will be given to the first male and female finishers who apply for the grants Applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship and Hawaii residency, a record of competition and demonstrate financial need.
