Kamehameha took a slim lead in the Benham Cup standings through the fall and winter sports seasons.

The five-member Benham Cup committee ranks high schools according to their athletic achievement in state championship events. The award is named after the late Clay Benham, who ran the Interscholastic League of Honolulu for 32 years.

The Warriors, by virtue of a strong winter season that included state titles in girls paddling and cheerleading, lead Iolani by one point, 187-186.

The Raiders missed out on the lead despite winning four state titles in the winter -- boys and girls swimming, boys paddling and basketball.

Punahou, a two-point leader after the fall season, dropped to third place, 12 points behind Kamehameha.

Baldwin ranks as the top public school with 98.5 points, one ahead of Mililani, the highest-ranked Oahu Interscholastic Association school.

When the spring sports season ends in May, the standings will be updated one more time and a Benham Cup winner will be named.
