Take the challenge
The Mai Tai Bar at Ala Moana Center is offering more than $10,000 in cash and prizes to professional and amateur chefs in the Kaukau Challenge.
Deadline is 5 p.m. Monday to submit unpublished recipes in categories of soup/salad, entrée or pupu, and dessert. Thirty-six will be chosen to be served at the Mai Tai Bar from May 24 to June 20. Diners' votes will determine the semifinalists who will compete in a cook-off July 11.

Fund-raising feast
Honolulu Waldorf School's annual benefit, Tastes & Treasures, takes place 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Pacific Club.
The event includes buffet dinner, music, dancing, presentation of the school's Living Treasures and a silent auction. Tickets are $50. Call 377-5471.

Saturday Farmers' Market: Steven Ariel of the Pineapple Room holds a cooking demonstration, 9 a.m. Saturday at the market in the parking lot of Kapiolani Community College. The farmers' market is held weekly, 8 a.m. to noon. Call 848-2074.
The Meatless Summer Picnic: Alyssa Moreau leads a vegetarian cooking class, 8 a.m. to noon May 1 at Kapiolani Community College. Cost is $45. Registration runs three weeks in advance. Call 734-9211.
