[ PREVIEW ]

Opening Friday in theaters:

"Connie and Carla": Nia Vardalos, of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," returns to the big screen as she and Toni Collette play Chicago dinner theater performers of middling talent who accidentally witness a Mafia hit. Running for their lives, the women head for Los Angeles, where they go undercover as drag queens -- only to become the toast of the gay cabaret circuit. (PG-13)

"Kill Bill, Vol. 2": Quentin Tarantino's film-geek homage to the revenge flick genre concludes as the mysterious assassin named the Bride (Uma Thurman) continues her murderous rampage, battling her way up the chain of command of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad in order to finally get at boss Bill (David Carradine). Also starring Daryl Hannah, Michael Madsen and Hong Kong martial-arts movie icon Gordon Liu. (R)

"The Punisher": Marvel Comics' deadliest antihero blasts his way to the big screen in this tale of a man who sets out to punish criminals responsible for killing his family. Thomas Jane is in the title role; John Travolta and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos also star. (R)
