was not alone in
Maui rescue scene


The swimmer in the surf fronting the Four Seasons Resort Maui reportedly saved by California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger last week was a guest at the hotel. Though it's true Schwarzenegger was in the water with wife, Maria Shriver, the gov was one of several people who assisted the man to shore and not the only one. After the man fell in the tiny surf, the governor let other swimmers help him onto the sand where paramedics treated the man, including placing a neck brace on him. A Maui-based paparazzi captured the entire episode on film. ... Director Tommy O'Haver has been vacationing on Maui. His picture, Miramax Films' "Ella Enchanted," starring Anne Hathaway, opened last Friday. ... Laszlo Kovacs, who's received a Hawai'i International Film Festival Lifetime Achievement Award has been named Kodak cinematographer-in-residence at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television. His credits include "Easy Rider," "Five Easy Pieces" and "Ghostbusters." ...

Those who just want to walk off what they ate at Easter dinner, can join in on WalkAmerica, the March of Dimes' annual fund-raising trek taking place Saturday. Register at 6 a.m. that day at Kapiolani Park Bandstand, then participate in the group warm-up at 7 before making the five-mile walk to Magic Island and back. Children are welcome too and Muffin of Carmen Geshell's children's book "Muffin's Makapu'u Adventure" will greet them when they reach the finish line. Geshell has three more books coming out this fall with illustrator Jeff Pagay. One is about a surfing watermelon, another about a mynah bird, and the other about a rag-tag group of rats. ...
