a drowning victim

Pearl City Peninsula Naval Housing residents, including mom Allison Schaefers, family and friends, planted a tree in memory of drowning victim Charlotte Schaefers yesterday during a community memorial service. Charlotte, 5, drowned Feb. 28 while trying to save a 3-year-old friend in a catchment pond.

At yesterday's POW/MIA Day ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl, Clarence Young, left, and Fred Liddell joined attendees who stood at attention during the national anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance. Young was a prisoner of war at Chang Song No. 1 in North Korea for 32 months, while Liddell was a prisoner of war at Wiwon No. 4 in North Korea for 28 months.
