Kailua man charged
in attempted murders
Police filed multiple charges yesterday against a 20-year-old Kailua man suspected of stabbing his mother and aunt, dousing them with a flammable liquid and then setting them and his house afire.
Police charged Micah White with first-degree attempted murder, two counts of second-degree murder and first-degree criminal property damage.
White is being held in lieu of $300,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Honolulu District Court on Monday.
According to a police affidavit filed in District Court, White's mother, Kerry, and his aunt Sharon White suffered severe burns and puncture wounds to their torsos at White's home at 1214 Kainui Drive on Monday.
Before the two women were taken to the hospital, a firefighter asked White's aunt who had hurt her. She responded, "Micah, my nephew Micah did it," according to the document.
The following day, Micah White called police from an emergency call box along Pali Highway and said he wanted to turn himself in, the affidavit said.
Before the fire started, Kerry White called her husband, Samuel, and told him that their son was threatening her with a rolling pin, the document said.
White's father said that his son was forced to move out of their home several weeks ago and was only recently allowed to return home, according to the document.
