Opening this Friday in theaters:
"The Alamo": Billy Bob Thornton and Dennis Quaid star in this historical epic about the siege of the Alamo. In the spring of 1836, nearly 200 Texans held the fort for 13 days under siege by a huge Mexican army. Led by the young, brash Col. William Travis (Patrick Wilson); the violent James Bowie (Jason Patric); and the larger-than-life Davy Crockett (Thornton), the Texans' actions would become legendary. (PG-13)
"Ella Enchanted": Anne Hathaway ("The Princess Diaries") stars in this romantic fantasy set in the world of fairy tales, where all children are given a "gift" from a fairy godmother at the moment of their birth. Ella's birthright is the gift -- and curse -- of obedience. Because of this, Ella cannot refuse any command, and is often left at the mercy of unscrupulous personalities. In a bid to regain control of her life, Ella goes on a quest to free herself. (PG)
"The Girl Next Door": Elisha Cuthbert ("24") stars in this sexy comedy whose secret former life as a porn star is discovered by her sheltered, straight-arrow 18-year-old neighbor -- only after they've fallen for each other. (R)
"Johnson Family Vacation": Cedric the Entertainer stars in this comedy as the father of a family on an annual cross-country trek where everything seems to go disastrously wrong. Reluctantly along for the ride is the wife and mother (Vanessa Williams), who's only in it for the kids; their rapper-wannabe son (Bow Wow); their teenage daughter (Beyoncé's younger sister Solange Knowles); and the youngest (Gabby Soleil) with her imaginary dog. (PG-13)
"The Whole Ten Yards": The sequel to the comedy "The Whole Nine Yards," with Bruce Willis, Matthew Perry, Natasha Henstridge and Amanda Peet reprising their roles. Mild-mannered dentist Nick (Perry) is now married to Cynthia, the ex-wife of hit man Jimmy the Tulip (Henstridge and Willis), and Jimmy is married to Oz's former dental assistant (and hit woman, played by Peet) Jill. Nick has to seek the hitman help of Jimmy and Jill, however when Cynthia is kidnapped by the Hungarian mob. (PG-13)
