Locally born
Woody’s Hot Dogs
plans more carts here
Locally founded Woody's Hot Dogs is looking back to its roots, planning to have 16 street-food carts operating in Hawaii by the end of the year.
The company has opened two carts in Waikiki and is exploring other locations, including on the neighbor islands, according to a statement.
President Coe Meyer could not be reached for comment.
Woody's moved its headquarters from Hawaii to Colorado in 2001 to focus on frankfurter franchising and now has 100 locations in 10 states.
According to www.woodyshotdogs.com, preferred spots include malls, shopping centers and amusement attractions.
One of its carts has enjoyed an 11-year co-tenancy with Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse and its predecessor, Eagle Hardware and Garden, in Waikele.
"For our environment, there are many customers who may actually spend six to eight hours in the store picking out stuff for a new home or a full-home remodel and (the cart) is definitely a benefit," said Dan Marshall, Lowe's store manager.
Employees also grab a quick dog, soda or both during breaks.
Station sale approved
The Federal Communications Commission has approved the transfer of the broadcast licenses of KUMU-AM 1500/FM 94.7 and KAHA-FM 105.9 to Maui-based Visionary Related Entertainment LLC.
Maverick Media LLC, based in Connecticut, previously tried to sell the stations to Georgia-based Real Radio of America LLC, but the deal fell apart last year.
This transfer, approved March 17, is going smoothly and will result in the only locally owned station cluster on Oahu, said General Manager Jeff Coelho.
FCC approval, announced last week, clears the way for Maverick and Visionary to complete the just under $5.3 million deal.
After some 40 years in radio, Coelho has seen many a sale, he said.
"I've been through this so many times, I should write a book on 'How to Transfer Your Radio Station.'"
And on how not to do it?
"And how not to do it," he laughed.
