Board endorses Kapolei project

The developer of a planned 1,150-home project in Kapolei said it has received community approval.

Schuler Homes said the Kapolei Neighborhood Board has endorsed the development plan for its Mehana project, which will include neighborhood parks, recreational facilities and $6.5 million in road construction and other improvements.

Schuler and the landowner, the Estate of James Campbell, said they plan to contribute a 12-acre parcel to be used for a new elementary school. Schuler said it is in the process of finalizing its purchase of the project's 120 acres from Campbell Estate.

The developer said it hopes to complete its first homes by 2008 and complete the project by 2015.

Ameron mainland strike settled

Ameron International Corp. and employees at its Water Transmission Group's Arrow Plant have settled a two-month-old labor dispute.

Workers in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., agreed to a new labor contract on Friday and will return to work this week. Details of the agreement were not released.

The strike against the company's Fontana Plant in Etiwanda, Calif., was settled Feb. 26.

Ameron's Water Transmission Group operates seven plants in California and Arizona. The formerly striking employees are represented primarily by the Boilermakers and Laborers Unions.

In Hawaii, Teamsters Union employees in Ameron's quarry and ready-mix concrete operations remain on strike.
