Hawaii 25th in NCAA swimming and diving
The University of Hawaii finished 25th at the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships yesterday at the Nassau County Athletics Center in East Meadow, N.Y.
Seniors Kurt Boehm and Cheyne Bloch led UH in yesterday's finals. Boehm was 13th in the 200 Butterfly (1:57.72) and Bloch was 15th in the 200 Breaststroke (2:11.76).
Hawaii finished with 20 points. Auburn won the championship with 634.
HPU baseball splits with Cal Poly Pomona
Geoffrey Say and Chase Nakamura paired hits to lead Hawaii Pacific pasts Cal Poly Ponoma 7-6 in the first game of a doubleheader at Pomona, Calif.
Sean Paiva got the win with 4 1/3 innings of two-run relief.
The Broncos (18-12-2) beat the Sea Warriors 6-2 in the first game as Jarrod Allen hit a two-run homer. Allen also homered in the first game.
Kyle Stanley went 3-for-3 for HPU (16-17) in the second game.
UH softball splits at Stanford tournament
Melissa Coogan pitched a three-hitter as Hawaii beat UC Riverside 5-0 yesterday at the Stanford Classic in Palo Alto, Calif.
April Crowell had three hits and Tracie Uchima and Tyleen Tausaga each had two for Hawaii.
The Rainbow Wahine lost the first of their two games yesterday, 5-2 to Brigham Young. In that game, UH pitcher Shannon Tabion was victimized by her former Baldwin High School teammate, Ashlyn Russell. Russell drove in three runs with a single and a double. Iolani graduate Ianeta Lei also singled and doubled for BYU.
Hawaii (18-18) concludes tournament play today.
Woman golfers tenth at Mountain View
Freshman Sara Odelius shot a 72 yesterday at Mountain View Golf Course in Tucson, Ariz., giving her a two-round 2-over par 146 and putting her in eighth place at the Mountain View Collegiate tournament.
Hawaii is 10th in the 17 team field with a 603 total.
Denver leads with 588.
The tournament concludes today.
Hawaii water polo beats Japan Junior
Beth Novick scored three goals to lead Hawaii past Japan Junior 9-3 at the Rainbow Classic water polo tournament yesterday at UH.
Amber Lumb had seven saves for the Rainbow Wahine.
Metzger's team ninth at Cape Town event
Punahou alumnus Stein Metzger and teammate Dax Holdren were the top USA finishers at the SWATCH-FIVB pro beach volleyball tour stop at Cape Town, South Africa.
Holdren-Metzger split four matches to place ninth .
After yesterday's matches, an all-Brazil final was set up for today as Emanuel Rego and Ricardo Santos advanced to face Tande Ramos and Franco Neto for the championship.
The teams of Eric Fonoimoana/Kevin Wong (Punahou), Dain Blanton/Jeff Nygaard and Todd Rogers/Sean Scott (Punahou and Hawaii) tied for 17th.
