Strike hampers Ameron earnings

The Hawaii concrete strike was partly to blame for a first quarter loss at Ameron International Corp., the company said in its earnings report yesterday.

The supplier of paint for bridges and skyscrapers, composite pipe and aggregate products said in a statement that its loss in the quarter ended Feb. 29 was $2.8 million, or 34 cents a share, compared with a profit of $2.2 million, or 27 cents a share, in the same period last year.

No new talks have been scheduled in the 45-day strike since the Teamsters Local 996 rejected the company's "best and final" offer last week. Ameron also incurred losses because of strikes at two Southern California plants in its Water Transmission Group. One of those disputed has been settled.

Datatronix lands Idaho contract

CB Bancshares Inc.'s check-processing subsidiary in San Leandro, Calif., has landed a contract with an Idaho bank that has assets in excess of $300 million.

Datatronix Financial Services Inc., which City Bank's parent formed in 2000, will provide image check processing for Farmers & Merchants State Bank. Datatronix now has seven customers, with City Bank as its main client.

Servco, Titan join HIBEAM mentors

Servco Pacific Inc., a distributor of automotive and consumer products, and Titan Key, a developer of anti-spam software, have joined the HIBEAM portfolio of companies.

The Hawaii Business and Entrepreneur Acceleration Mentors, founded in 2000, is a nonprofit organization that helps early stage Hawaii technology companies accelerate growth and attract funding.

Titan Key has developed a system in which unwanted e-mail is refused by an e-mail server before it is placed in a user's mailbox. The sender gets back an error message, which discourages further spamming.

Servco Pacific, founded in Hawaii in 1919, also is involved in real estate and private equity investment management in Hawaii and the Pacific Basin.
