BEAUTIFUL, KAWAI!: Kawai Cockett, third from left, sang his signature song, "Beautiful Kaua'i," with support from Hailama Farden, left, Sam Kamuela and Kamaka Tom, after he received an Hawai'i Academy of Recording Arts Lifetime Achievement Award at the Sheraton Waikiki last Sunday. In accepting the honor, Cockett spoke elloquently in both English and Hawaiian of his love for his family, his Hawaiian culture and the elders who had shared their knowledge with him.

YOU EARNED IT!: Puakea Nogelmeier, left, joined Noelani Mahoe in congratulating Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Ka'upena Wong. Mahoe, a 2002 recipient, had said she felt very honored to present one to Wong, and then called him up to join her, Lynette Paglinawan and Mona Teves in playing "E Ku'u Lei Pikake" and "Does Your Heart Beat For Me."

AND ONE FOR "LAUPAHOEHOE": Award recipient Bill Kaiwa, standing, shared a table with Christina Denny and prior honorees Martin Denny (1990). center, and Buddy Fo (2003). Kaiwa thanked his hanai father, John T. Waterson, for putting him in touch with traditional Hawaiian music, and then entertained the crowd with a spirited rendition of his signature hit "Boy From Laupahoehoe."
