Wong's top-seeded team bumped from Draw

SALVADOR, Brazil >> Top-seeded Eric Fonoimoana and Punahou product Kevin Wong were eliminated from the Main Draw yesterday at the SWATCH-FIVB World Tour season opener.

Fonoimoana-Wong was upset by 16th-seeded Pedro Cunha and Para Ferreira in the pro beach volleyball event.

Punahou alums Stein Metzger (with Dax Holdren) and Sean Scott (with Todd Rogers) remain in Main Draw contention.

Gammie runner-up at Thompson Invitational

Freshman Dale Gammie's runner-up finish pushed the Hawaii golf team to a tie for fourth place yesterday at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational.

Teammate Sara Odelius tied Gammie's final round of a 2-over 74 to finish ninth for the Rainbow Wahine.

New Mexico won the tournament, finishing 29 strokes ahead of runner-up San Diego State. Washington State's Kim Welch won the individual crown, two strokes ahead of Gammie.

Seasiders dominate Mills to go to 12-0

No. 1 Brigham Young-Hawaii beat Mills College 6-0 yesterday to remain unbeaten in Division II women's tennis.

Judy Weng, Amy Sun, Hana Chovanova, Trisha Piercy and Crystal Schwenke all won 6-0, 6-0 for the Seasiders. Anna Lewis won her match 6-1, 6-1.

BYUH tests its 12-0 record today against Bowdoin at Laie.

Sea Warriors split doubleheader

Hawaii Pacific split a baseball doubleheader with Presbyterian College yesterday, losing to the Blue Hose 7-1 in the opener, then winning 13-8 in the nightcap.

In the second game Geoffrey Say, Grandon Costa, Tyler Ward and Chase Nakamura each had two hits.

2004 NCAA men's volleyball tickets on sale

Ticket packages to both days of the 2004 NCAA men's volleyball championship at the Stan Sheriff Center are on sale through May 6 at all University of Hawaii ticket outlets.

Any single match tickets left, if applicable, will go on sale May 6.
