Seasiders sweep
Hong-Tae Kim, Leon So'onalole and Simon Kerston all swept their opponents 6-0, 6-0 as the Brigham Young-Hawaii men's tennis team beat Bryant College 9-0 at Laie.
Kim also teamed up with Jan Krejci to win their doubles match 8-0.
The Seasiders improved to 8-2 and will take on Chaminade today.
Women sweep, too: Jing Jing Liu destroyed Sacha Solomon 6-0, 6-0 as the BYUH women trounced Bryant 9-0 yesterday.
Anna Lewis, Gurianna Korinihova, Hana Chovanova, Trisha Piercy and Crystal Schwenke also scored wins for the Seasiders.
HPU's Garcia honored
Hawaii Pacific first baseman Holly Garcia was named the Pacific West Conference's player of the week in softball this week.
Garcia, who is tied for HPU's career home run lead, went 8-for-13 with the tying shot and four RBIs. She is third in the conference in hitting with a .408 average.
Olympian in town
Olympic gymnast Blaine Wilson will drop by local gyms March 22-23 to promote the upcoming Pacific Alliance Gymnastic Championships.
Wilson is the only man to win the U.S. title five straight times and has competed in two Olympiads. He is currently recovering from a torn left biceps tendon and will resume training in April.
The Pacific Alliance Championships are April 15-17 at the Stan Sheriff Center and will be broadcast on NBC in May.
Aloha major coming up
The Aloha Section PGA's first major championship of the season is March 21 at the Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay designed Hapuna Golf Course on the Big Island.
The Big Island Candies Scotch 4-Ball Championship will feature Kevin Hayashi and Lance Taketa trying to defend their title.
