Can’t go wrong starting
week at Zanzabar

IF YOU had fun at those '80s-themed parties downtown that took place Friday night, keep Zanzabar in mind for another blast to the past.

Instead of making the journey to Studio 1, Indigo and Club Pauahi last weekend, I ended up kicking back for a bit at "Friday Night Fever," a new weekly that's seen a steady increase of people over the past month, according to club manager Parson Iosua.

With no cover before 11 p.m. for local residents and free sushi prepared by California Rock 'n Sushi executive chef Reid Tamayose, you can't go wrong starting off your weekend at Zanzabar. Call 296-9393 for more info ...

I ALSO got my first taste of Richard Cheese on Friday as the front man of Lounge Against the Machine performed karaoke style at the Ocean Club.

If you missed it, Cheese did songs by Puddle of Mudd, Mötley Crüe and Coldplay, and I loved his rendition of OutKast's "Hey Ya." He also told the crowd that he would be back this summer to do a couple of shows. I can't wait ...

THE BAD news for Dashboard Confessional fans is that the March 26 show at Pipeline is sold out.

The good news, however, is that a second show has been added. Tickets are on sale for a March 27 concert at Pipeline that starts at 7 p.m. Pick up yours at the usual spots, or call 888-829-8008 to order by phone ...

AFTER TWO months of being called "Twilight," Flash Hansen, Matty Hazelgrove and Komo Low have renamed their monthly party at the Hanohano Room and moved it to Thursday nights.

Superstar DJ Keoki joins DJs Drift, KSM and SubZero on the decks Thursday at what's now called "Skyline," and remember that the admission stamp you get at the Hanohano Room also gets you into the Wave Waikiki for free the same night ...

THREE YEARS ago yesterday, I was among the last people to clean up and vacate our old newsroom before moving into our new home at Restaurant Row. Mahalo plenty to those of you who have supported us ever since -- it's been a wild ride for this columnist, that's for sure. Long live the Star-Bulletin ...
