Tribute to Dave
Dave Donnelly, whose column appeared on the features pages for 35 years, died on Jan. 24. The Star-Bulletin invites its readers, and every person whose name Dave ever boldfaced in print, to join the newspaper in paying tribute to Dave in a manner he would have liked: by helping aspiring students realize their dreams and learn more about theater.
With that in mind, a scholarship has been established in Dave's memory at the University of Hawaii theater department. Donations may be sent to the University of Hawaii Foundation:

From Russia, with love
The Honolulu Brass Quintet presents music of the great Russian masters, beginning at 7:30 p.m. today. Equal parts Stravinsky and Rimsky-Korsakoff, with a splash of Tcherepnin and Boehme, will be served up at the Honolulu Academy of Arts' Doris Duke Theatre.
The quintet is Mark Schubert and Kenneth Hafner, trumpet; Wade Butin, horn; James Decker, trombone; and David Saltzman, tuba. Eric Mathis will join them on trombone for the Boehme Sextet.

United in music, dance
A free concert featuring music and dance from Asia and the Pacific will be presented at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow by the University of Hawaii-Manoa Center for Southeast Asian Studies and the School of Hawaiian, Asian and Pacific Studies 2004 Graduate Student Conference.
The event marks the opening of a three-day conference at the Center for Korean Studies.
The concert at the Music Department's Orvis Auditorium will feature student, faculty and community performances, including the music and dance of Hawaii, the Philippines, Korea, India, Okinawa and Indonesia.

Tryouts for the Lanikai Mortgage Players' fall melodrama, "1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, or How John Barleycorn Lost His Grip on the White House," take place 7:30 p.m. March 24 at the Lanikai Community Center.
