UH-HPU baseball
game postponed
The nonconference baseball game between Hawaii and Hawaii Pacific at Murakami Stadium last night was postponed by steady rain showers.
The game will be rescheduled for later in the season.
Neither team took batting practice or infield on the field prior to the game. The dirt areas around the bases and home plate were prepared about 6:15 p.m. with hope of starting the game on schedule at 6:35. But the rain started again and the starting time was pushed back to 7. That time passed with the teams still sitting in the dugouts.
A stoppage in the showers allowed the grounds crew to remove the tarps and put moisture absorbent material on the dirt areas between 7:10 and 7:25 p.m., but just before the teams were to take the field, the rains came again. A new deadline of 8 p.m. was set to start the game.
The Rainbows (14-7) leave Wednesday night for Houston, where they open the Western Athletic Conference season Friday with a three-game series against national and seven-time WAC champion Rice.
The Sea Warriors (6-10) begin a six-game series tomorrow against Presbyterian College with a 4 p.m. doubleheader at Aloha Stadium.
