No feesh, go audition

Kumu Kahua director Harry Wong is seeking four actors for the theater company's production of Lee A. Tonouchi's "Gone Feeshing," opening in early May.

Auditions will take place noon to 3 p.m. tomorrow and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Roles are for:

>> One female, any age, but should be able to hula.
>> Two local males, early 20s to late 30s.
>> One local male, late 30s to early 50s.

Auditions will be at the theater at 46 Merchant St. and consist of cold readings from the script, some improvisation and simple movement work. Auditioners should come early and stay the whole time.

Scripts are available for loan with a $10 cash deposit at KKT. Call 536-4222 for more information.

Serving up the oldies

Relive golden memories with Herb Reed & The Platters, who perform on Kauai tonight, Maui tomorrow, and Oahu on Sunday, in a benefit for the Dominican Sisters of the Most Holy Rosary in Hawaii.

The Kauai Memorial show takes place at 7:30 p.m., with tickets running $35 to $45 through Ticketmaster.

Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. Maui show are available only through the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.

The Oahu dinner concert begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Ilikai Hotel, with tickets priced from $75 to $85, at Ticketmaster outlets.

Best known for hits from the 1950s, including "Only You," "The Great Pretender," "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" and "My Prayer," The Platters were inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.

Original member Herb Reed, who founded and named The Platters in 1953, continues to perform with The Platters.

All-breed cat salute

The Hawaii All Breed Cat Club is hosting the last cat show, "Cats USA -- Red, White and Mew," of its current show season.

The public is invited to the Ala Wai Golf Course Club Hawaii from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow to see some of Hawaii's most beautiful cats including Abyssinian, Burmese, Manx, Persian, Siamese and Somali. Admission is $4 for adults and $3 for children and those 65 and older.

In support of the military in Hawaii and overseas, the cat fanciers will be holding a raffle for two round-trip interisland air fares for those with military ID (competitors or spectators).

One of the club's aims is to educate the public on cat care and responsible pet ownership.

Punk tickets

Tickets go on sale today for the Honolulu concert debut of "the greatest Irish-Punk band in the United States!" -- or so says comic-late night host Jimmy Kimmel. Los Angeles' own Flogging Molly will rock Pipeline Cafe on April 9, with Go Jimmy Go opening for the band. Frontman Dave King describes the band's music best: "If you take away the guitars and drums, this would be a nice little Irish folk band ... take away the fiddle, mandolin and accordion, and Flogging Molly would be one hardcore punk band!" $16 advance tickets are available at the club's box office, the University of Hawaii-Manoa Campus Center, Cheapo Music in Puck's Alley, Jelly's in Aiea, Hungry Ear in Kailua, plus online at www.808shows.com.

Pruning tips

Learn the basics of pruning plants, including what tools to use, safety, the perfect time for pruning, and when it's time to actually call in a arborist, in a workshop tomorrow at the Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden Nursery.

Rose seminar

Honolulu Rose Society will host "How to Grow Beautiful Roses" seminars 11 a.m. Sunday at Home Depot Iwilei, and 11 .m. March 20 at Home Depot Pearl City.

The free workshop will cover the history, as well as the basics of rose care.

Plant sale

Oahu Nursery Growers Association is having a scholarship plant sale this weekend at Thomas Square.

A wide selection of professionally grown indoor and outdoor plants will be offered for sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Arrive early for the best selection.

Home Depot Kapolei

Home Depot will open it's newest store March 18 at 4600 Kapolei Parkway, making it the third on Oahu and the sixth in Hawaii, with a staff of 75 people to service West Oahu.

To kick off its grand opening, the store is hosting a "Neighborhood Night" preview at 6 p.m. March 17, starting with a charity donation to Rebuilding Together Waianae. State Sen. Brian Kanno will be on hand to help dedicate the store.

This Kapolei branch will be the first Home Depot here to offer tool rentals.

Store hours will be 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays, and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays. Call 674-6120.
