Interactive displays honor leaders
The University of Hawaii College of Business Administration and the Junior Achievement of Hawaii will unveil two permanent interactive displays tomorrow that honor prominent state business leaders.
One display will present the stories of the 45 members of the college's Alumni Hall of Honor. The other display will present the stories of the 59 laureates of Junior Achievement's Hawaii Business Hall of Fame.
An event with the unveiling of the displays will be held at 9 a.m. in the college's courtyard.
Alumni who will be added this year for contributions to their profession and for public service are: T.C. Chan, head of Citibank operations in Taiwan; Jim Hassett, a partner with Chicago-based Ernst & Young; Dee Jay Mailer, chief executive officer of Kamehameha Schools; and Hideo Noguchi, CEO of Noguchi & Associates Inc. The induction ceremony is in April.
The 2004 laureates for entrepreneurial and civic activities who have made an impact on Hawaii's economy are the late developer Christopher Hemmeter; Big Island automotive dealer David DeLuz Sr.; Donald Graham, principal of GMR LLC; James Romig, founder of Hilo Hattie; Linda and Kane Fernandez, Fernandez Entertainment Inc.; and Michael H. Lyons II, philanthropist and former Bank of Hawaii vice president. The induction ceremony will be held Tuesday.
Business plan contest not moot
Top young business students from Asia are coming to Honolulu to compete in the 7th annual Asia Moot Corp business plan competition Wednesday and Thursday.
The University of Hawaii College of Business Administration will host the event for the third and final year. In 2005, the competition moves to Bangkok. Fourteen teams, including one from UH, will participate in the competition. A description of each team's business plan can be found at www.paciber.org/mootcorp. The winner will compete in the global finals at the University of Texas at Austin.
The public is invited to attend the divisional competition Wednesday at the Ala Moana Hotel and the final competition Thursday at the East West Center.
