Big Isle police seek
sex assailant

WAIMEA, Hawaii >> Big Island police are looking for a Mercedes-driving suspect wanted for fondling himself in the presence of a Waimea Middle School boy.

The incident took place at Waimea Park about 1:50 p.m. Monday, when the man lured the boy into his car under the guise of getting the boy out of drizzly weather, Detective Christopher Gali said.

The boy realized the man was rubbing himself through his shorts, Gali said. The man also touched the boy on the back. The boy fled and notified an adult. He was not injured.

The alleged incident meets the definition of sexual assault, Gali said. The man is also wanted for kidnapping.

The man was driving a blue, four-door Mercedes with tan leather upholstery, police said. He was described as in his 60s, 6 feet tall, about 225 pounds, with short gray hair. He was wearing a black ball cap, a light-blue T-shirt and black neoprene shorts.

Similar reports regarding a blue Mercedes were made a few days ago at Waimea Middle School and at Kealakehe Middle School.

Anyone with information is asked to call Gali at 326-4268 or CrimeStoppers at 329-8181.
