UH's Russo named WAC Player of the Week

Hawaii third baseman Rocky Russo was named Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league announced yesterday.

Russo, a sophomore from Monterey, Calif., was the MVP of last week's First Hawaii Title Rainbow Baseball Tournament after hitting .471 (8-for-17) with eight RBIs as the Rainbows went 5-0 and won their 13th tournament title.

Louisiana Tech right-hander Clayton Meyer was named the WAC Pitcher of the Week.

Wahine's Tabion is WAC Pitcher of the Week

Hawaii's Shannon Tabion was named the WAC Pitcher of the Week after going 5-1 in six games for the Rainbow Wahine.

Tabion threw the first perfect game of her collegiate career in an 8-0 victory over Siena College on Saturday. It was the first perfect game for a UH pitcher since Brooke Wilkens did it against New Mexico State in 1994.

Fresno State's Christina Clark was named the WAC Player of the Week after batting .524 in six games for the Bulldogs.

Lady Crusaders sweep Seasiders

The Point Loma Nazarene softball team swept Brigham Young-Hawaii 7-5 and 2-0 during a doubleheader yesterday in Laie.

The Seasiders dropped the first game despite outhitting 13-12. Amanda Nino, Shea Seever and Mandy Kirkham each had three hits for BYU-Hawaii. In the second game, the Seasiders' Brooke Hilton gave up two earned runs in the first inning before shutting out the Lady Crusaders the rest of the way.

UH sailors take second in Miami

The Hawaii Rainbow Wahine sailing team took second out of seven teams at the University of South Florida Women's Intersectional, held March 6-7 in Miami.

UH senior Jennifer Warnock and freshman Shandy Buckley earned 47 points and two first-place finishes in 14 A division races.

BYUH tennis teams sweep Hawaii-Hilo

The Brigham Young-Hawaii men's and women's tennis teams defeated Hawaii-Hilo yesterday. The top-ranked women won 9-0 and the third-ranked men 8-1.

The Seasiders women's team (7-0) lost just 14 games in nine matches en route to their 73rd consecutive dual-match victory. The men improved to 5-2 as Hilo's Jarrod Dryer spoiled the sweep with a win at No. 4 singles.
